Mediation continued on April 18 & 19 with two additional half-day sessions and concluded on April 19 with a Tentative Agreement. During these sessions, we further moved Columbia on (1) PhD wage increases, (2) dental discounts, (3) EOAA enhancements, and (4) transitional funding support for student workers who need to switch advisors as a result of an EOAA complaint.

  1. The University has agreed to increase wages by 3% in Year 2, from a previous position of a 2.5% increase.

  2. The dental discount for students enrolled in the Student Health Plan will be increased to 25% (from 10%) off self-pay fees on additional services at Columbia Doctors Dentistry.

  3. The University agreed to numerous changes to the EOAA process, which we can enforce through our contract and which will benefit the entire Columbia population, not just our workers. These changes include:

    • The right to appeal the result of an EOAA complaint to a neutral decision-making body.

    • Expanded grounds for appealing EOAA decisions.

    • The decisions of the neutral appellate officers are final (CU has no role in affecting or approving decisions or recommendations, and this is legally enforceable).

    • The right to access all evidence and interview recordings.

  4. On Non-Discrimination and Harassment, the University incorporated guaranteed bridge support for student workers whose EOAA complaint results in a determination that it is appropriate to switch faculty advisors. This guarantee is subject to our grievance & arbitration procedure.

We will also be holding a General Body Meeting TODAY at 7-8:30 PM ET and will present this tentative agreement. Register here.
