NOTICE OF NOMINATION AND ELECTION FOR THE UNION BARGAINING COMMITTEE (ten [10] positions)

February 6, 2017

Nominations are hereby declared open for the GWC-UAW Local 2110 Bargaining Committee (ten [10] positions): All eligible Union supporters [any Columbia graduate and undergraduate student who is currently employed by the university according to the categories outlined by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Columbia decision (i.e. graduate and undergraduate Teaching Assistants, Teaching Fellows, Preceptors, Course Assistants, Readers, Graders, Graduate Research Assistants [including those on Training Grants], and All Departmental Research Assistants)] who have signed a GWC-UAW authorization card are automatically nominated for the GWC-UAW Local 2110 Bargaining Committee.

The bargaining committee will be composed of ten members, to be allocated from the following jurisdictions:

  1. 2 members who work in GSAS natural sciences departments
  2. 2 members who work in GSAS humanities and social sciences departments
  3. 2 members who work in SEAS departments
  4. 2 members who work in CUMC/Public Health, departments
  5. 2 members who work in professional/other schools (School of the Arts, Journalism, SIPA, Business, Professional Studies, GSAPP, Social Work, and Law, etc).

Any eligible Union supporter who wishes to accept the nomination for one of the ten (10) Bargaining Committee positions listed above must indicate their intention in writing, including the specific jurisdiction for which they are a candidate, by electronic scan (pdf), photograph attachment, or by hand delivery of a signed acceptance of nomination for the specified position above no later than 5pm on Wednesday February 15, 2017: GWC-UAW Elections, 256 W 38th Street, 12th Floor, New York, NY 10018 or by e-mail to the UAW 2110 elections committee at local2110@2110uaw.org.

Candidate statements

Each candidate may write and submit a candidate statement of no more than 250 words. These statements will be posted on the GWC-UAW Local 2110 website if there are contested elections. Address, phone number and email address must be included, but will not be counted toward the 250 words.

It is the responsibility of the candidate to submit the candidate statement. All candidate statements must be received by the time nominations close at 5pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2017.

Election Dates, Times and Locations

In the event that the number of eligible candidates who accept nomination for the specified jurisdiction do not exceed two (2), such candidate(s) will be deemed elected by acclamation and no election will be held.

If more than two eligible candidates accept nomination for the jurisdiction, an election will be conducted with the top two (2) vote getters for the specific jurisdiction being elected.

Elections will take place on Thursday, February 23 at the following times and locations.

Morningside:  10am-6pm, in Nous Café/Graduate Student Center (Philosophy Hall)

CUMC:           10am-6pm, in Hammer Health Sciences Building Room LL1-104

Lamont:          10am-2pm, in Geosciences entrance

A run-off election, if necessary, will be held on Wednesday, March 1, from 10am to 6pm. The locations will be announced if necessary.

VOTING IN THE ELECTION SHALL BE AT LARGE AND SHALL NOT BE RESTRICTED BY JURISDICTION.

Voters, regardless of department, shall be entitled to vote for up to two (2) candidates in each jurisdiction, for a total of ten (10) candidates.
