February 25 marks two years since we began bargaining with the University. Two years is more than enough time to reach a fair agreement and in order to get a fair contract we must take further action.

Today we sent a letter to Interim Provost Ira Katznelson signed by organizers in every department across the University urging Columbia to take this date seriously and put meaningful proposals on the table on key contract areas. In October, Katznelson joined one of our sessions to express the University’s commitment to reaching a fair agreement, which was later reiterated by the University’s bargaining team with the emphasis on finishing the negotiations this semester.

Last Spring, workers in GWC voted 96% YES to authorize the bargaining committee to call a strike if needed to achieve a fair contract. The University’s intransigence on the most basic economic areas and non-economic protections leaves us no choice but to escalate. We continue to organize towards a potential strike as we tell Columbia it is in their power to avert it by giving us a contract we deserve!

ON FEBRUARY 25, TAKE ACTION!

If we have not reached a fair contract by February 25, we will be holding two actions to announce a strike deadline. Join us and tell Columbia: FAIR CONTRACT NOW!
